Hectic times call for a crockpot meal

If you remember to put the roast in the crockpot that is! Monday I pulled a butt roast from the deep freeze with intentions of throwing it in the crockpot before I left for school that morning. It remained in the fridge, forgotten until I got home and there was no pleasant smell of roast that had simmered all day.

Fast forward to Wednesday morning, it was like ground hogs day... Same scenario. Forgot about the roast until I was driving home from school.

Today however... I remembered my roast. I came in this afternoon to the savory smell of a delicious roast, cooked to perfection the way only a crockpot can cook it.

Little Snippets Overheard

"Watch this! Its just like on Jackass" Jackass - The Movie (Widescreen Special Edition)  Spoken by lil dude right before I heard the skateboard fly across the porch


"Fine! Im going to California"  Spoken by devil child while bickering with lil dude. Im hiding in her suitcase! Who wouldn't?!?!?

"Daddy went to work" spoken by devil child, followed by a maniacal laugh I laugh too because the man has not held a steady job (okay really ANY job) in the 5 years Beanie has been with him.

Harassed for Watermelon

No really. Ive been harassed for a couple weeks to buy a watermelon. The main harasser is lil dude. Followed closely by devil child and Baby J. Baby J is just a follower though... whatever the others ask for, she asks for too. Sometimes she asks for things she doesnt even like. Like lunch meat, just because the others ask.

So anyhow, I finally remembered to pick up a watermelon at the store. Sliced it open and gave it to the kids for an after school snack (even though lil dude is technically the only one of the three in school, it works) Had I realized that not only would all 3 of them actually eat it, they would eat a LOT of it. I now have one sliver of watermelon left. They ate the rest of it.

So add to my list of things to plant. The kids were ever so nice too, the picked all the seeds out and saved them for us to plant LOL I didnt have the heart to tell them they have to sit until next year, you cant plant fresh seeds.

Its time to plant!

  

Now if Mother Nature would just cooperate and stop dropping rain. Our area has gotten over 20 INCHES of rain in the past 11 days. Yeah that is no typo. 20 inches.  They have blown breeches in 2 levees on the rivers, one on the Ohio and one on the Mississippi. The lakes have reached their highest levels since the 1920's.

Today I do see the sun... but its going to take more than one sunny day to dry up all the mud and muck from all this rain.But in the interim I am planning and plotting my garden

Im sure we will wind up coming up with more to plant, but that about covers it for now. Carrots and potatoes didnt do very well last year, and I can only imagine with the red clay in the area they wont do well this year, so I doubt we try and roots!

Entitled Generation

I said it. Yep entitled generation. You know the ones Im talking about.   The ones who believe that life is truly about them. Its all about me syndrome. I was reading on a group today, and fond an ever so annoying post that reminded me about the ME generation. Seems there are people who feel that if they take the time to travel to visit family, that they should be compensated by being given a bed to sleep in and food in their mouths, regardless of the cost to others. I just shake my head. Since when should my mom give up her bed, so that I have one. What happened to blowing up an air mattress and camping out on the living room floor? Why should my retired grandma be responsible to feed my family of 9 (kids/grandkids etc) if we go visit? I think it takes some balls to expect that of your family. Its nice if they offer up a place to stay, their own bed in exchange for a few nights on the couch, or a meal here and there. I just think its ridiculous for people to think they are entitled to a "free" stay because its family, and to go as far as to be upset, angry, or blatantly rude because they are not being given what they feel is their right.

Graduation

Is right around the corner. Im a little freaked out now. Obviously I plan to be back in school in September so its not really like Im done with school, but the efforts of my work will show with a piece of paper that with any luck will ensure me a job where I can make more than minimum wage.

I guess I'm also a bit bummed. While I have a degree in social work, and this is "just" (according to family) a second degree, I'm bummed because Ive let my family know this is coming, I guess because I'm looking for a pat on the back... yet all I hear about the past month is how my sister is trying to get into school, because she wants to be a midwife. 

The fact that I took (and passed) my MCAT (but not with the scores I needed to get into the school I want, I need to up my math shit) means nothing. The fact that I plan to retake it in September to try and get into med school starting in 2012 means nothing.  The fact that I am the first person in my family to have any degree from any college,  doesn't matter. I just feel I guess like I don't matter. It sucks. For my family anyway, life is all about my sister.
